We moved into this single-wide home in 2003 with 4 kids and 5 dogs. If you have never seen the layout of a 3 bedroom single-wide let me explain. These are usually 14’x76-ish’ with the master bedroom & bathroom on one end, kitchen and living room in the middle, a hallway down the other end to access a small bedroom, bathroom then ending at the doorway to the end bedroom. The 3 girls got the master suite, the only boy got the small room, & we took the end room. When the oldest moved back to her mother’s we swapped with the girls. The dogs had a pen all their own with a large doghouse. They had more room than we did!

The intent had always been to purchase the home & we did in 2008. For 1064 sq ft on an acre of land, a single-wide is a very affordable option & we completely enjoyed the $400 monthly payment on a 15 year mortgage.

We had been maintaining and repairing whatever came up while we rented, but once it became ours we started remodeling it to customize to our needs and wants. We’d had 5 years of living here to fully understand what worked and didn’t. Now that we’ve been here 20 years, the kids have all grown and moved out, we are ready to add the living room we always dreamed of. We struggled to find substantial information and guidance on the internet to help us know IF this was even possible and HOW one might start such a project. I am going to share ALL this valuable information with you so that you can make informed decisions on:

• Is a single-wide right for me?
